SARCO Architects presenting at 2018 National Construction Conference on BIM

As the entire world moves forward with accelerated steps into the transition onto BIM workflows and philosophy, Costa Rica takes finally its first steps to avoid falling too far behind.  The entire AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) industry worldwide has already identified the immense benefits of the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology. Many countries in all continents have identified the new technology and made significant steps to create a governing structure and regulations for the proper delivery of projects in BIM workflows.

Costa Rica has so far lagged behind massively in this regard.  To this date still an incredibly high percentage of professionals rely on the now-obsolete use of 2D CAD applications.  Another significant sector has embraced tools that enable some level of 3D work but produce empty 3D models with no capability for project coordination or embedded information into the models.

2018 National Construction Conference on BIM

Therefore, we applaud the creation of the Costa Rica BIM Forum, and together with the Costa Rican Construction Chamber, the organization of the 2018 National Construction Conference, centered 100% on the topic of BIM Implementation.

SARCO Architects, as a pioneer in this methodology in Costa Rica and with over 15 years of experience of working in BIM Methodology on all of its projects, has been invited as one of Costa Rica’s representatives at the event.

Roderick Anderson, CEO & Design Director at SARCO Architects Costa Rica will participate in the event, together with a select group of experts from both the architecture and engineering sectors, from several countries in Latin America such as Perú, Argentina, Panamá y Costa Rica.

Mr. Anderson will participate with a presentation about success examples in residential design in Costa Rica, and will be a part of the event’s closing discussion panel together with the other speakers.

Mr. Anderson’s presentation will center around exposition of a recently completed design project that involved close coordination with engineering trades through the information exchange via IFC files.  Architecture and structural engineering worked hand-in-hand for the design of a complex high-end residential project.  The entire project was modeled in BIM applications, and the integration of the different trades was performed by SARCO Architects to ensure that solutions were thought out for architecture, interiors, air conditioning systems, and structure.  All elements were closely coordinated to ensure that no clashes or conflicts will happen during construction.

The conference will be held on August 23-24 at the Crown Royal Corobici Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica. Over 300 people from the architecture and construction industry have registered for the event, expected to be a complete success.  For more information about the event, visit the Costa Rica Construction Chamber website.
